Ravens Spirit: Judging the Competition

Hi everybody. This is Leslie, back for another entry in the Ravens cheerleading blog.

Things have been so busy, for me personally and with the cheerleading team. Two weekends ago, I judged a cheerleading competition in southern Maryland. Working with cheerleading groups is just another thing some of us do outside of our Ravens work.

A lot of the girls are coaches for different cheerleading programs, as well as going across the country to judge contests like this. The one I went to in Waldorf, Md. was an all-day competition, and it was really interesting and look back and see what it used to be like when I was a girl.

Oh yes, I was in these competitions at one time, too. I can remember everything from getting ready to performing to hopefully winning and the feelings that you get from that. I know what it’s like to be on the other side, and knowing that sometimes makes it tough to give my critique. I see a little bit of myself every time in those girls.

It’s just awesome to give back, and I’ve been in the industry for so long, it’s just nice to be able to do something like that. It’s one of the other things I do outside of cheering, and it’s a lot of fun.

Other than that, we had one practice off last week, which was great because just like the team and their bye week, we like to make the most of our breaks in the middle of the season.

The practices we’ve been having have been pretty intense lately. We’ve got four new routines were working on, so we need all the practice time we can get until Sunday’s Bengals game. It’s going to feel great to have the team back in front of a home crowd at the stadium after almost five weeks. Finally!

For the Bengals game, we won’t be dancing on the field at halftime like we did against the Rams in October. That was a one-time thing for the regular season, although I think we might be able to do a halftime routine if we have a home playoff game this year.

During the Rams game, I’ll admit we were very nervous. It’s intense. It’s a little bit different from dancing in the end zone. All eyes are on you, and you’re in the middle of the field. Obviously, we hadn’t done that in a couple of years, but in the end it all went great.

The crowd seemed to like the performance. We got great feedback from the fans and e Ravens’ front office staff. We really had a lot of fun doing it, and hope to have the opportunity to do a little halftime dance in the future.

Thanks again for reading the blog! I’ll be back soon with more from the Ravens Cheerleaders.

Go Ravens!

Here is a picture of us on the field at halftime during the St. Louis game. That's me second from the left.
