Ravens Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in Worldwide Day of Play Fitness Event
The Baltimore Ravens and Nickelodeon are teaming up to promote healthy lifestyles for our nation’s youth this Tuesday (9/23), as part of the annual Worldwide Day of Play (WWDP). To complement the NFL’s celebration of the 2008 Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15 – 10/15), several Ravens players, including G/T David Hale, WR Marcus Smith and DT Salomon Solano will host a Gatorade Junior Training Camp for youth at Wolfe Street Academy.
The players will be joined by Ravens cheerleaders and will promote nutritional education and fitness, while engaging the predominantly Hispanic youth in the sport of football. Led by Solano, an international practice squad member from Mexico, the players will address and coach the bilingual youth through basic football skills.
Established as a day focused entirely on active play, WWDP aligns with Play 60: The NFL Movement for an Active Generation, a campaign aimed at getting children active for at least 60 minutes a day.
Wolfe Street Academy is a two-time recipient of the Plan in Motion grant, funded by the Ravens All Community Team Foundation, and given to nonprofits who promote physical fitness and nutrition education among Baltimore-area youth. The grants have sustained the after-school soccer club for the elementary school.
