Fiesta 5K Surpasses Expectations

On Saturday, May 2, over 150 members of the Baltimore Ravens organization ran the Packard Center’s Fiesta 5K and Fun Run in Baltimore on behalf of Director of Player Development O.J. Brigance.

Brigance served as honorary chair for the second year in a row. Diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2007, Brigance has served as an inspiration for the team and the city with his strength and determination in fighting the disease.

“We were there to show our support for OJ in his fight against ALS,” said Ravens president Dick Cass. “We and OJ will be back again next year and every year to continue that fight.” “OJ teaches and inspires us every day by fighting ALS with such courage and grace.”

The race raised over $170,000, well surpassing the original goal of $150,000. Well-known members of the Ravens organization, such as John Harbaugh, Ozzie Newsome and Ed Reed participated in the run. Former Raven and future Hall-of-Famer Jonathan Ogden also made an appearance.

Brigance, a former player himself who was on the Ravens’ 2000 Super Bowl team, was moved by the show of support.

“I was amazed by the tremendous showing of support,” Brigance said, noting there were four hundred more runners than last year. “I am moved the most by the kindness and caring of everyone within the organization and the city of Baltimore.”
