Marwan Maalouf (pronounced mah-LOOF) joined the Baltimore Ravens as the team’s assistant special teams coach on February 12, 2008. Maalouf has accrued 3 seasons of NFL experience, 2 of which came from 2005-06 as the Cleveland Browns’ special teams quality control coach under Ravens new special teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg. In his other professional season (2004), Maalouf served as a scouting administrator and offensive quality control coach for the Browns.
Working with Rosburg in Cleveland, the Browns’ special teams units ranked among the league’s best. In 2006, RS Joshua Cribbs finished 3rd in the NFL with 1,545 total return yards. The Browns boasted a 10.3-yard punt return average for the season, good for 7th in the NFL. In 2005, Cleveland’s punt return unit ranked 4th in the league with a 10.1 average. The Browns earned a No. 6 overall ranking in the Dallas Morning News’ annual special teams poll, a comprehensive evaluation compiled by Rick Gosselin.
As Cleveland’s scouting administrator and offensive quality control coach in 2004, Maalouf was responsible for offensive film breakdown and game planning, in addition to college and pro scouting. On the field, he worked mostly with the offensive line.
Prior to joining the Browns, Maalouf spent 2 seasons (2002-03) as the assistant offensive line coach at Rutgers University. Under Scarlet Knights offensive coordinator and new Ravens offensive quality control coach Craig Ver Steeg, Maalouf coached the Scarlet Knights’ unit with current Florida International head coach Mario Cristobal.
Maalouf also held a graduate assistant post at Eastern Michigan in 2002, but left mid-season to join the Rutgers’ coaching team. Additionally, Maalouf served as Fordham University’s assistant offensive line coach in 2001.
Maalouf began his coaching career at his alma mater of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, OH. He was the Yellow Jackets’ assistant offensive line coach in 2000 after earning 3 letters while playing LG from 1997-99. Maalouf, a 2-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, was named Baldwin-Wallace’s Outstanding Offensive Lineman and elected team captain his senior season. Maalouf earned a degree in history from Baldwin-Wallace.
While out of coaching in 2007, Maalouf worked for Scouts Inc. He wrote weekly scouting reports and game previews that appeared on ESPN.com. Last season, he also served as a volunteer coach for Baldwin-Wallace, working primarily with the offensive line.
Born 11/26/76 in Beirut, Lebanon, Maalouf attended Strongsville (OH) HS. He lettered in both football and track and field.
