Pat Moriarty Biography

Pat Moriarty, the team’s vice president of football administration, has been a key part of the franchise since 1994. A longtime member of the Ravens’ personnel staff, Moriarty was one of the NFL’s original capologists. He is responsible for the management and strategic planning of the Ravens’ salary cap. Moriarty’s NFL career began as a rookie free agent running back for the Cleveland Browns in 1979.

OVERVIEW: The Cleveland native negotiates all of the Ravens’ player contracts, oversees salary cap administration, roster management, and the day-to-day operations of the player personnel department...Moriarty is the team’s top contract negotiator and main liaison with the NFL Management Council and Players Association...Over the course of 14 years, Moriarty has negotiated player contracts totaling over $750 million...Negotiated contracts and coordinated the signing of 14 Ravens 1st-round draft choices, as well as numerous free agents...He also analyzes draft-day trades during the 2-day NFL selection process each spring...Pat works closely with GM Ozzie Newsome in many areas, including helping to coordinate the budgets of the scouting, coaching, equipment, football video, training, and strength and conditioning departments.

1996-2007 (with Baltimore) 2007: Ravens traded for RB Willis McGahee in March, and Pat subsequently negotiated a new contract for him...Re-signed LB/DE Jarret Johnson and re-negotiated starting NT Kelly Gregg’s contract. 2006: Acquired Pro Bowl QB Steve McNair, re-negotiated Pro Bowl S Ed Reed’s contract, signed a significant free agent in Pro Bowl DE Trevor Pryce, and re-signed LB Bart Scott, who earned his 1st Pro Bowl in ‘06. 2005: Signed key additions WR Derrick Mason and CB Samari Rolle, both of whom had an immediate impact. 1997-2004: Has re-negotiated the contracts of several other key players, including Pro Bowlers TE Todd Heap, LB Ray Lewis and T Jonathan Ogden, allowing the team to remain competitive each year while staying within the confines of the salary cap. 1996: When the franchise moved to Baltimore, Moriarty was named the organization’s chief financial officer.

1994-95: (with Cleveland) Joined the Browns’ front office in 1994 as the director of business operations.

1982-1993: Was involved in commercial banking in the Cleveland area. 1988-93: Worked for Key Bank in Cleveland in the corporate lending division.

1980-81: Spent NFL training camps with the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins.

NFL PLAYER: 1979: Signed as a rookie free agent RB with Cleveland...Scored 2 TDs and also played special teams in his lone NFL season.

COLLEGE: Moriarty earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial management from Georgia Tech, where he was a 3-year starter at RB...He later earned his master’s degree (1993) in business administration from John Carroll University.

PERSONAL: A Cleveland native, Moriarty earned All-State honors in both football and track at Benedictine (Cleveland, OH) HS and was inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame in the spring of 2002...Pat’s brother, Tom, played 5 years in the NFL as a DB, 4 with Atlanta and 1 with Pittsburgh...Moriarty, who is on the NFL Management Council’s Working Club Executive Committee for the 4th-straight year, is working towards his law degree at the University of Baltimore School of Law...He has been a guest speaker at numerous engagements, including Loyola College, University of Maryland Law School, University of Maryland Business School and the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he was a guest lecturer on sports and entertainment law...Pat has also participated in the Ravens’ Purple (football informational sessions for women) program, presenting a discussion on the NFL’s salary cap...Moriarty is on the board of the American Red Cross of Central Maryland...He and his wife, Lynn, are the parents of 3 children: Kevin (19), Laura (16) and Katherine (13)...The family lives in Hunt Valley, MD.
